Psalm 34:4 – I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears.
Wow. This verse spoke straight to me a few weeks ago. So often we want to be saved from our troubles. And yes, there are promises that address that, so don’t freak out. God can do that. We want to be saved from our enemies – and yes, God promises that too, so relax. But this verse is so fascinating. He saves us from our FEARS.
Actually, he FREES us from our fears. I really love the mental picture, or really the feeling, that is conjured up in my brain when I read this. Being set free is such a powerful image. It’s a blessing that is felt deeply. But here, we are being set free from something that physically can’t even touch us!
Fear is a gift from God to help us not hurt or injure ourselves. Fear helps us avoid pain. But all too often in this sinful world, we end up fearing things that are not actually dangerous. We fear things that not only haven’t yet happened, but aren’t actually likely to ever happen! And while fear alone is technically not a force outside of us that can cause harm, it is a very real internal force that can cause both emotional and physical problems!
People who live in fear develop diseases and other issues – often causing more damage to themselves than the actual subject of their fears could possibly cause on its own. It’s fascinating, really.
But then along comes Psalm 34:4, and offers us a promise we would be foolish to reject. This is a promise that I believe applies to everyone, and can be used by everyone. God desires spiritual freedom and liberation for all. Claim this promise, make it your own, and enjoy!
What are you afraid of today that you need to pray to the Lord about, and let Him free you from?
Because really, this is His promise. The thing will still be there. Academic concerns? Still there. Scary relationship hurdles? That hasn’t gone anywhere. Financial problems? The struggle is real! Fear about how all those things are going to resolve and how you’ll get through? GONE!
And without that fear, you’ll move forward.
Without that fear, you’ll take a step.
Without that fear, you’ll be able to look rationally at the options before you, and choose wisely.
Without that fear, your body will be able to relax and get good sleep and just be healthier…
How would your life be different tomorrow if you stopped today, prayed to the Lord, claimed His answer to you, and believed that indeed, you are now free from fear and you know He will walk with you fearlessly through the reality of whatever lies ahead?
My life hasn’t been the same since I claimed this promise.
Why don’t you try it and find out what it means to you?

I’d love to hear from you! Comment here:
